In the beginning
Born in London but raised in Kent , Always a nature lover and a keen bird enthusiast. My Interest in Photography started in my late teens when a good friend of mine bought an expensive camera and embarked on his photography journey . That was the late 80s in the days of film photography.
We learned together the hard and very expensive way over and under exposing countless rolls of film until it eventually began to make sense.
Photographing the natural world was an obvious choice for me and gave me a perfect excuse to escape to the uncrowded beaches and marshes of Kent .
But the biggest thrill of all was to embark on a dedicated photo trip to the national parks of the UK , Snowden, Cumbria ,the Yorkshire dales. etc.
That feeling you get when the sky catches fire or the mist bellows up from an awesome landscape that you drove hours ,and walked in the dark to get to in time, never gets old.
My Photography
Portrait photography is something i have always enjoyed ,and over the years i have come to realize the importance of tacking plenty of regular pics of the people you love. Ultimately they will become the most valued images you have.
In the days of film, half the photography i did was studio portrait , it was a valuable learning experience as unlike shooting landscapes, i could control the lighting.
Black and white soon became a thing with me ,i liked its timeless look and loved the fact that i could develop and print the work myself .
On occasion i have had some success with environmental portraits which is a genre i am keen to continue exploring.
I.C.M (intentional camera movement) photography has become popular lately. It was a very expensive thing to do in the days of film but that is no longer a problem and has become a regular practice for me , i have produced some of my favorite images using this technique .
